About this site

Karim Chebaklo is an independent analyst working on geopolitics and state reform in the Eastern Mediterranean, with a particular focus on Lebanon.

His writing approaches Lebanon's crises through a single lens: the state must hold the monopoly on force and on the core decisions of war, peace, and reconstruction. Where that monopoly is absent, sovereignty is not a slogan but an open question, and his analysis traces who fills the vacuum and on what terms.

He brings twenty-five years of private sector experience, including senior operating roles and equity ownership across multiple businesses, to questions usually left to commentators with no operational background. That perspective informs a recurring interest in the machinery of the state: procurement, public finance, port and trade infrastructure, and the institutions through which money and power actually move.

His policy writing has appeared in War on the Rocks. He currently serves on the board of the Beirut Port Authority. He holds a Master's degree from the Ecole Supérieure des Affaires in Beirut and holds Canadian and Lebanese citizenship.
